Stakeholders Round-table Engagement Towards the Implementation of the Climate Change Act, 2021
On the 20th June 2023, Savannah Centre hosted relevant stakeholders at a round-table engagement towards the implementation of the Climate Change Act, 2021.
The stakeholders included representatives from the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development, Organised Private Sector (OPS), and relevant Civil Society Organisations.
The meeting availed the Centre the opportunity to launch the Climate Change Act, 2021 policy factsheetand to discuss the best and possible approaches to be adopted on the implementation of the policy.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Interest-Based Negotiation Mechanism (IBNM) for the Staff of the Kogi State Public Defenders and Citizens Rights Commission (PDCRC)
On the 13th and 14th of June 2023, Savannah Centre in Collaboration with Mercy Corps Nigeria conducted a capacity-building workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Interest-Based Negotiation Mechanism (IBNM) for the staff of the Kogi State Public Defenders and Citizens Rights Commission (PDCRC) in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
The capacity-building workshop was a follow-up to the recently implemented Capacity Building Workshop on Kogi State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2022 for Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission Structures.
Advocacy Visit on the Adoption and Domestication of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR2250)
On the 8th of June 2023, Savannah Centre and Mercy Corps Nigeria kickstarted the process to the adoption and domestication of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR2250) on “Youth Peace and Security” in Plateau State. The process commenced with a meeting with the top officials of the Plateau State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to discuss on the possible approaches that could be adopted to fast-track the domestication of the Youth Peace and Security Resolution in the State.
2-days Capacity Building Workshop on Kogi State Violence against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2022 for Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission (PDCRC) Structures.
On the 23rd and 24th of May 2023, Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development and CIPP partners conducted a 2-days Capacity Building Workshop on Kogi State Violence against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2022 for Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission(PDCRC) Structures.
The capacity building workshop had in attendance the Hon. Chief Judge Kogi State, the Executive Director SCDDD, the Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, and the Commissioner of Police.
Participants drawn from the PDCRC, Ministry of Justice, Magistrates, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) were heralded by several sessions of holistic and detailed training on the implementation of the Kogi State VAPP Law, 2022.
Roundtable Engagement with Relevant Stakeholders toward the Smooth and Efficient Operationalization of the Benue Peace Commission
On the 2nd May 2023 Today, in Makurdi, Benue State, the Savannah Centre held another Roundtable Engagement with relevant stakeholders toward the smooth and efficient operationalization of the Benue Peace Commission.
The meeting came up with workable strategies that could help facilitate the setting up/inauguration of the Commission before the exit of the current administration on May 29th 2023.
The meeting had in attendance key stakeholders from Benue State House of Assembly, CSOs, Religious Organisation and NBA.
Advocacy Visit to Governor-elect of Plateau State, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang
As part of the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) sustainability effort and to build on the project gains across the CIPP States, Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development, and Mercy Corps – Nigeria delegation paid an engagement visit yesterday 16th of May 2023 to the Governor-elect of Plateau State, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang to officially brief him on the CIPP project in the state, cum successes recorded thus far vis-a-vis planned/ongoing interventions in the state as well as to secure his administration buy-in and collaboration.
The Governor-elect while appreciating the team for the visit, pledged commitment and support to interventions that would contribute positively to the sustenance of peace in the state using CIPP as a reference point.
